Saturday Selections ~ Death by Diamonds by Tony Berry

Saturday, December 9th, 2017

New author to me but I do love mysteries and the title alone snagged me.

This is Book 3 in the Bromo Perkins Mystery series.

Former British secret agent Bromo Perkins’ bid for a quiet life as a one-man travel agency in Melbourne is about to explode…
Bromo survives mainly on coffee and malt whisky and blends street-wise hardness with a soft touch with the ladies.
But before he can say ‘Laphroaig’ events are swirling around him and he doesn’t know why – starting with a murdered girl, Tamsyn, who is found to have swallowed diamonds.
Why had she been taken under the wing of one of Bromo’s lady loves who then directs him to a seedy diamond merchant?
Why does the jeweller warn him off and who would mug Bromo shortly after?
And why are there youths stalking him, delivering cryptic messages attached to dodgy diamonds and taking their orders from a gun-toting undercover agent using past liaisons to coerce him into action?
It is a whirlpool with no visible source.
And Bromo’s past seems set to haunt him. When all he wants is to be left alone why are his former masters so closely watching him?
They may have unjustly banished him to the far side of the globe for one small stuff-up, but they have never forgotten him – or set him free.
The tentacles of intrigue stretch far beyond his adopted city in Australia – back to London and across the Indian Ocean to the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya in civil war-torn Sri Lanka.
He struggles to decipher events – from his early contacts with the Sri Lankans, the explosive raid on their café and the warning from the jeweller, a bruising hit-run attack and an encounter with the enigmatic Mr Blood.
Bromo also experiences an emotional reunion with his daughter Jess, who is committed to the worldwide war on a deadly diamond trade…

Saturday Selection ~ Slave, Warrior, Queen by Morgan Rice

Saturday, November 18th, 2017

Trying another author I’ve not read before but this one grabbed me instantly. So glad I have time to sit and read this story by @MorganRiceBooks

17 year old Ceres, a beautiful, poor girl in the Empire city of Delos, lives the harsh and unforgiving life of a commoner. With her pending sale to slavehood, she is desperate.

18 year old Prince Thanos despises everything his royal family stands for. He abhors their harsh treatment of the masses, especially the brutal competition—The Killings—that lies at the heart of the city. He yearns to break free from the restraints of his upbringing, yet he, a fine warrior, sees no way out.

When Ceres stuns the court with her hidden powers, she finds herself wrongfully imprisoned, doomed to an even worse life than she could imagine. Thanos, smitten, must choose if he will risk it all for her. Yet, thrust into a world of duplicity and deadly secrets, Ceres quickly learns there are those who rule, and those who are their pawns. A new author to me @NamelessDwarf has put a fantasy before me I am excited to read.

For more than a thousand years, the dwarves have hidden away from the world in their ravine city of Arx Gravis.

Governed by an inflexible council whose sole aim is to avoid the errors of the past, the defining virtue of their society is that nothing should ever change.

Deception and death are coming to Arx Gravis.

The riddles that preceded Carnifex’s birth crystalize into a horrifying fate that inexorably closes in.

But it is in blood that legends are born, and redemption is seeded in the gravest of sins.

For Carnifex is destined to become the Ravine Butcher, before even that grim appellation is forever lost, along with everything that once defined him.

Saturday Selection ~ Wired In by Toby Neal

So this week (Happy November by the way) I’m going back to a mystery writer that I am a huge fan of @tobywneal I’m lucky enough to have a book coming out in her Lei Crime Kindle World series this month. But, this isn’t about me or that particular series. This is book 1 in her Paradise Crime series.

I can’t wait to jump into this series.

Special Agent Sophie Ang’s emotions are battered by a child kidnapping case that goes badly wrong. In tracking the criminal ring, her rogue data analysis program D.A.V.I.D. identifies an anomaly that leads her into a cat-and-mouse game online with a deadly enemy whose motives are unclear. The chase lures her through dark corridors of cyberspace into a confrontation with the violence from her past that sent her fleeing to the United States. She’ll need every skill she’s learned to defeat her worst nightmare–and the stakes couldn’t be higher.Â
Can Sophie both defeat her past, and protect her heart from a fascinating cyber vigilante?

Saturday Selection ~ Imperfect by Ella Linden

Saturday, October 28th, 2017

Another new to me author. @Ella_Linden Paradise Bay is a place I think I want to visit. Imperfect is Book 3 in her Paradise Bay series.

Eden Lowery’s life is pretty close to perfect. She has a job she loves, loyal friends, and a supportive family. Yeah, she hasn’t stumbled across her dream man yet, and it’s been over six months since she’s even considered going on a date, but she’d rather be picky than end up with someone who bores her to tears. And most men tend to do exactly that.

But one night, one man, and one ill-conceived kiss changes everything, and Eden finds herself thinking far too often about a man who is wrong for her in every way.

Nathan Russo has done a great job of maintaining the walls he’s kept around himself since being betrayed by those he trusted. Injuries sustained in combat plus coming home to a life that was nothing like what he’d pictured have left him confining himself to the one thing he knows he can count on: himself.

He didn’t expect Eden Lowery and her laugh, her infectious love of life, or her refusal to do anything halfway to start chipping away at the barriers he’s been relying on for so long.

And once she finds her way in, he knows it’s only a matter of time before she realizes he’s not the man she deserves.

The question is whether he’ll be able to pull himself back together again after she’s gone.

Definitely not law enforcement who railroaded her through a judicial nightmare. One step ahead of lethal men and dogs on her trail, she runs into the arms of a dark stranger willing to help her if she’d let him. But that would only get the sexy pilot killed.
Between figuring out who’s sabotaging his undercover work for the DEA and trying to save his baby sister from herself, Zane Jackson has enough on his plate. The last thing he needs is to get entangled with a woman who’s treading on the wrong side of the law. But when the long-legged distraction races into the middle of his operation and stows away on his plane, a primal need to protect forces Zane to risk everything, starting with his heart.
