Yes. He spun her so she was between him and the bed of his truck. Arms braced on either side of her he leaned in closer. “If you were smart you would be.”

She didn’t pull away, in fact, she leaned closer. “Call me stupid then.” And she kissed him.

“Mindy,” he called out.

She took a picture for another couple but turned her head and glanced over her shoulder to meet his gaze. His gut tensed when she smiled at him. How does one woman do this to me? He closed the distance to her, and the second she handed the phone back to the woman, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

Slanted his mouth over hers and took what he’d wanted since he’d met her. Her taste flooded him, sweet, refreshing, and most definitely addicting. Stroking along her tongue, he gathered her close, needing her against him as tight as he could have her.

She didn’t even hesitate, just wound her arms around his neck and returned the exchange. A deep groan slid up from his throat. He shut his eyes and gave over to the raw emotions racing through him.

When he ended the kiss, he wanted nothing more than to get her somewhere alone where there wasn’t anything but the two of them. “Come with me,” he whispered as he stared into her eyes. The setting sun had cast its golden glow over the entire area, illuminating her skin.

When she stopped to allow a group of people to pass, he leaned forward and murmured, “Michael,” into her ear.

Her head turned, positioning her full tempting lips a hairsbreadth from his, and she whispered, “Ayanna.”

He kissed her. He had no choice. Her mouth had teased him as it formed her name and challenged him to sample her lips. She tasted divine.

The innocent kiss quickly evolved into something more. Michael hungered for all this woman offered. He dominated the kiss, using his tongue to sweep throughout the recesses of her mouth.

Alone with you

The elevator arrived and they got on. He engaged the button for their floor. “What’d you have to tell me, Ariel?”

She waggled her finger in his direction. “You, Tuck Carter.”

He grinned at her. “You’ve already said that bit.”

“Oh.” Her lips pursed briefly. “Just so’s you know, I go through so many batteries because of you, it’s not even funny. And just once, I want to know what it’s like to kiss you.”

Her proclamation stunned him and he stood frozen to the spot. Didn’t matter, Ariel was strong and jerked him to her, plastering her lips to his. A rumble rolled up from his chest and all sense flew out of the window as he gathered her up in his arms and intensified the kiss. Her taste, incredible. Her curves against him, sinful.

In the back of his mind, he knew they’d just crossed some kind of line. Right here, right now. He didn’t give a damn. All that mattered was she was wrapped around him like a lover, like she should be. He’d face the consequences later.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and dropped a kiss to her forehead. “He won’t get to you again, Pix. I promise you’re safe here.” She didn’t respond and he looked down at her, tipping her chin up. “You’re thinking loudly again. What?”

“Thinking that my being here put your family in danger and if anything happens to them because of me, I’ll never forgive myself.”

Adam didn’t have any words he knew would make her feel better so instead he kissed her. Dipped his head and covered her lips with his own.

Holy shit!

He’d forgotten what it was like to kiss her. Her soft lips parted beneath his pressure and she gripped his jacket when his tongue pushed inside her mouth to tangle with hers. Even after all this time, she still tasted the same and, as her flavor slid along his taste buds, even his cells reawakened with passion. Suddenly, this was so much more than just about keeping her safe. It was about keeping her in his life.
